A self-taught chef, Scott has spent his entire life in the restaurant and beverage industries, with a career spanning over twenty years. His love of wine started when he was growing up in Virginia’s wine country. Scott later attended Kansas State University where he soon gained employment, and eventually managed a large wine retail store. In 1997 he began working for Standard Beverage as a fine wine salesperson. During this time Scott began visiting the major wine regions in the world and studying the restaurants in each region. Through the years, Scott developed all the ideas for his perfect restaurant. In 2004 he and his wife Rachel, opened 4 Olives Restaurant & Wine Bar. 4 Olives has received various awards and excellent reviews, notably being a recipient of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence since 2005, and being the only restaurant in Kansas to receive honors as a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence, one of only 700 restaurants in the world to be honored with the award. 4 Olives was also selected as a semifinalist for a 2013 James Beard Foundation Award for Outstanding Wine Program.
About the Restaurant
4 Olives Restaurant and Wine Bar opened in July of 2004 with such culinary specialties as: ultra-fresh fish, wild game, local ingredients, and artisan cheeses. The ambiance of the restaurant can be described as upscale contemporary, the dining rooms surrounds two large glass wine caves. The featured style of cuisine is a Contemporary Mediterranean-American menu with Pacific influences, emphasized by extremely fresh, made-to-order items. Every item is made in house. Our desserts are prepared by our talented pastry chef, and Scott’s wife, Rachel Benjamin. The bar menu consists of well-crafted, classic cocktails using house-made ingredients, fresh juices and premium spirits. With over 500 fine spirits, 60 beers, and 800 wines which are kept in our temperature controlled, glass wine cave, 40 of which are also served by the glass, and kept using the Bermar Wine Preservation System. Prix Fixe Menus are available on the weekends. The restaurant accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.
After ten years on the west side of Manhattan, 4 Olives moved downtown to the historic Marshall Theatre Building at 4th and Houston. The first movie theatre in Manhattan, Scott’s Grandparents viewed the silver screen here on dates while attending K-State in the 1930s. Today we have remodeled this building with outdoor dining, a massive wine cave, and a completely open kitchen with chef’s tables. Rachel has also opened her own sweet bakery, 4 Cakes, next door. She offers custom cakes, and the finest retail baked goods daily.
